What looked like stratocumulus because the cloud cover seemed quite low. However, it could easily have been mid-level clouds. A Cb anvil was also noticed at dusk. The weather sounding showed uncapped instability though the approaching 500mb trough was not yet over Malta. The first thumbnail shows the same cloud but with a different background.
