These formed due to a very steep lapse rate until an altitude of 3.5km. Obviously this was not enough for Cbs to form hence these beautiful clouds. This steep lapse rate was caused by the movement of a cold airmass over very warm sea surface temperature as Winter in the Mediterranean region has begun almost immediately after an unusually warm Autumn.
