Sc lacunosus
/ 0 Comments / in Low Levels, StratocumulusStratocumulus clouds after an earlier thunderstorm had passed over Malta. The lacunosus sub-species are reknown for their honeycomb-like feautres which is caused by the downdrafts of cool, dry air (the white areas of the cloud) in a general environment of rising warm and moist airmass. Such cloud variety is not that very common. The other photograph shows the same cloud feature in the foreground gradually becoming undulatus in the background due to the presence of wind shear as can be seen in the weather sounding. Due to the presence of at least 3 cloud layers on the day, it was very difficult to distinguish between the various clouds in the sky.
