Formation of low and horizontally-stretched clouds with very little vertical extent as warm and moist air bubbles rising from the warm Mediterranean Sea quickly found a capping inversion at 700 metres of warm and very dry stable layer. This is indicated in the weather sounding of the first thumbnail. There was the presence of a broad high pressure system over the Mediterranean which had been persisting for several days leading to moisture pooling in the lower layers hence the formation of such thin clouds.
