Lunar eclipse
/ 0 Comments / in Misc, Random WeatherRed coloration of the partially eclipsed super moon as seen from Zurrieq in Malta. Unfortunately, totality was obscured by cumulus clouds on the western side of Malta as a strong high pressure over Northern Europe directed a relatively cool and somewhat unstable airmass over the Maltese Islands. At that time, the contrast between the cooler air and the warmer sea is at its sharpest. However, the circulating air remained somewhat dry hence only isolated cloud formations (2nd thumbnail). The first thumbnail shows a towering cumulus cloud taken on the same day but at sunset due to the explained process. In addition to the explanation, the fourth thumbnail shows various local weather feautures on the Mediterranean via the surface wind that also affected the weather over the area. The final thumbnail shows the local Maltese timing of the lunar eclipse.
