Local heavy flooding

Flooded road in Rabat,Malta during a local heavy thunderstorm. Most probably this was initiated by an outflow boundary from a storm near Catania. This outflow bumped onto the warmer, humid air and since the air was unstable the hills over Western Malta possibly aided in the storm initiation. A cut-off upper low was centred around the Maltese Islands. Hail had also fell during this storm. The presence of a cold air pool at upper levels can be seen in this `Freezing Level` map creating a steep lapse rate with the surface air.
