Squall line

A line of large cumulus clouds and eventually cumulonimbus that have formed as a result of an occluded front that passed over the Maltese Islands. This seems to have been cold occluded because the clouds that formed were exactly to that of a cold front. The strong gusts of wind up to Force 8 before the storm was followed by a quick burst of heavy thundery rains and hail showers which only measured about 4mm in about 2 minutes (rain rate of 120mm/hour). The first thumbnail shows another view of the approaching dark clouds as the squall line reached Malta while the second thumbnail indicate the occluded front ahead of the main low pressure area that was responsabile for the formation of this squall line. The third, fourth and fifth thumbnails indicate the conditions of the airmass that was unstable but somewhat dry, lightning zone and the line of heavy rains respectively. Rain showers continued into the weekend.
