This was enough to create the pictured stratiform cloud which was producing light rain hence nimbostratus. Was rain not falling from this cloud, it would have been classified as Altostratus translucidus. The first thumbnail shows another shot of this same cloud while the two below it show the jet stream at the time and the surface pressure.
