Cc undulatus
/ 0 Comments / in Cirrocumulus, High LevelsWhilst the edges and outline of the photographed cloud is not well defined, the horizontal separation gaps are clearly separated indicating different airmass characteristics. This is confirmed in a wide-view photo in the first thumbnail. This cloud preceded the arrival of a mass of high-level and mid-level clouds brought over the Islands by a strong jet stream which helped create the photographed cloud. These are indicated by the satellite image and jet stream chart respectively on the 4th and 3rd thumbnails. The second thumbnail representing the weather sounding showed lots of upper-level moisture and meager instability with definite composition of ice crystals in view that these clouds were formed at an ambient temperature of -15C, well above the freezing level. These clouds are uncommon in the warm season as these normally develop in Winter usually indicating the arrival of a mid-latitude cyclone.
