This cloud species according to the newly issued cloud atlas is “Altocumulus stratiformis cumulogenitus“ because as per first thumbnail the cloud was clearly developed from cumulus clouds reaching a stable layer in a post-cold front airmass which is described in detail in the next photo taken earlier in the day. The second and third thumbnails indicate the visible satellite image and air temperature at an altitude of 1.5km proving the entrance of cold air following the cold frontal clouds of a low pressure system. However, the weather sounding indicated that the air was still unstable throughout but from observation, air immediately following a cold front that produced little rain becomes more stable hence the spreading out of cumulus clouds from the top to produce this cloud.
