Mid-level clouds probably formed due to light and humid easterly winds gently rising over the Maltese terrain causing such formation on the western side of Malta. A cold pool of air was present over the Central Mediterranean as indicated by the `Freezing Level` chart. Notice the cumulus cloud formation in the background over the open sea due to this cold pool being heated and moisturized by the warmer sea.
