Formation of mid-level clouds due to warm,moist air from below rising slowly above a weak cold pool of air at mid-level under high pressure conditions which definitely slowed the ascent of the said warm air despite strong instability at mid-levels. The weather charts depict the air profile at the time, the upper level high and patches of cold air at 500mb height around the Maltese Islands.
