Ac floccus

Unusual cloud formations in Winter due to the fact that it was warmer than normal. Such clouds are normally seen during the warm season. In fact, it could have easily been a brief upper-level thunderstorm from such clouds, looking very fuzzy because all the condensation is ice-crystals. The weather sounding indicated that cloud temperature was at least -11C. Shots of more altocumulus floccus can be found by clicking on the pictures below. The third thumbnail shows cirrocumulus castellanus with some undulations under a crescent moon despite instability being lacking but with wind shear present at upper levels.
