Formation of altocumulus due to the passage of a cold front over the Maltese Islands from a rare Summer mid-latitude cyclone centred over Northern Italy as clearly seen in the satellite image. Such weather situation is normally found over the Mediterranean in the more unsettled months of Autumn and Winter. The weather sounding herewith indicated lots of instability and moisture in the middle levels of the atmosphere whereby lift by the low pressure system could have been initiated.
