Ac undulatus

Formation of what looks like undulations in the mid-level cloud layer due to wind shear in the mid-levels of the atmosphere as indicated by the weather sounding. Wind shear occurs due to change in wind direction and speed with height. The weather sounding clearly showed varying wind speed at the mid-level section of the atmosphere. This cloud formation was associated with a line of bad weather near the Maltese Islands as shown in the surface pressure chart.
