Ac undulatus

Undulations in the altocumulus cloud layer due to increasing wind speed with height. This was also observed on high-level clouds in the background. Wind shear was amplified by a fast flowing westerly jet stream over the Maltese Islands as per second thumbnail. The first thumbnail is the weather sounding that confirms mainly speed shear in the mid-levels of the atmosphere causing roll-like clouds to form. Otherwise no significant features were observed in the weather charts.
