Formation of cotton-like clouds with irregular small gaps formed as a line of bad weather passed over the Maltese Islands during the early afternoon. The surface pressure chart shown in the last thumbnail. The first thumbnail is a close-up view of the same cloud structure whilst the second thumbnail show the weather sounding at the time. Usually these clouds form at an altitude of between 2km and 5km but it seems that the photographed clouds actually formed at a lower altitude of around 1100 metres as the moist airmass was forced to rise upwards by the line of bad weather forming the lump of clouds. The third image is the visible satellite image taken at the time showing the same lumps of cotton-like clouds scattered over the Central Mediterranean and these clouds could also be seen over Northeast Malta if one zooms in very closely on the visible satellite image.
