Persistent formation of large cumulus clouds throughout the day over southwestern Malta and Gozo due to convergence of NW and NE winds along the western shores of the Maltese Islands as evidenced by the actual wind map in the first thumbnail. The third thumbnail shows the weather sounding indicating a slightly unstable airmass at the surface which however was not unstable enough to create thunderstorm clouds. The second thumbnail shows the cumulus clouds as seen over the satellite imagery and local clouds over Sicily due to daytime heating.
