Cumulus cloud with a rain shower due to a closed upper low over the Central Mediterranean with a cold pool clearly visible in the actual weather chart image on the fourth thumbnail. Cumulonimbus clouds were also observed on the satellite image but the fact that the sea at this time of year is at its coolest it did not lead to very active weather. The first thumbnail shows approaching clouds and eventually rain and the second thumbnail shows a relatively unstable atmosphere with light easterly winds at all levels. However, the level of free convection level seemed to be high at an altitude of 1km leading to somewhat lesser cloud activity given the weather scenario.
