Formation of cumulus clouds due to an upper-level trough in the vicinity as can be seen on the weather charts. However, instability was limited on the day to produce bigger clouds. This did not preclude rain showers in the area with the first thumbnail depicting a rainbow hanging under the clouds due to small rain droplets hitting the setting sun. The second thumbnail is a closeup of the same rainbow at its best.
