Cu praecipitatio

A typical isolated rain shower falling from a cumulus cloud base due to the overloading of water droplets that the underlying airmass could not support. As can be noticed in this photo, such cumulus producing precipitation tends to get flatter and darker. The shades of grey underneath it indicate the strength of precipitation which in this case it was only light to moderate. The first thumbnail shows another view of the same rain-producing cloud. The clouds have formed due to an upper level low in the western Mediterranean stretching eastwards towards the Maltese Islands as the 500mb chart combined with the visible satellite image indicate (refer to thumbnails).
