Cu mediocris
/ 0 Comments / in Cumulus, Low LevelsPlentiful of cumulus cloud formation pointing towards the direction of the wind which at that moment was from a SW direction. These cumulus clouds as per weather sounding on the second image have developed due to thermal heating from below but inhibited to rise further due to a very dry airmass just above them. A cold pool of air was noticed over the Maltese Islands as per third thumbnail and this had also produced local rain showers over Gozo. Such closed cool pools normally trigger cumuliform and cumulonimbus (under instability) cloud formations. The first thumbnail shows a cumulus congestus cloud taken at sunset from Wied il-Blandun.
Low-level altocumulus clouds were also observed via this link ‘Ac floccus12‘.
