Cb incus
/ 0 Comments / in All Levels, CumulonimbusFormation of an isolated cumulonimbus (previously cumulus congestus) due to the tail end of a line of bad weather passing over the Maltese Islands. This acted as a trigger for this cloud formation. However, the cloud only skirted towards the Eastern side of the Island extending the dry period and dissipated quickly due to a relative upper high at 500mb. The weather sounding showed ample of instability at mid to high levels of the atmosphere but a with a small lid of more stable air at lower levels somewhat inhibiting convection from below without this trigger. Despite the lightning chart showing lightning strikes close to Malta, no thunder was heard over the Island.
