View of Cb with mammatus on its anvil side that gave a heavy rain and hail shower. These cloud formations were the result of thermal contrasts between the cold air and a sea surface temperature of 15C. The first thumbnail shows a rain shower over the Malta-Gozo channel from the base of a cumulus or cumulonimbus cloud. The second and third thumbnails show the weather sounding and the freezing level (indicating the cold air inflow) respectively.
